Projeto Liber: Desencadeando Potenciais

Crime is on the rise. Prisons are getting overcrowded. For your knowledge, Brazil's prison population has grown 270% in the past 14 years (Infopen 2014) making it world's 4th biggest! But this speaks for a tiny bit of the problem. Our prisons are ineffective and responsible for a 70% recidivism! Yeah, that's right, from each 10 people that get out, 7 come back to prison. In a prison located in the south of Minas Gerais, in a city called Alfenas, they have about 520 inmates living in 192 beds. The prison guards (COs) are not well aligned, there's a lot of internal conflicts and they do their best to keep inmates out of society - well, they're doing a great job on that, I'll tell you. With Project Liber (from liberty/freedom) we've started giving workshops for the prison staff on communications, team building and problem-solving. That led to a better work environment and improved processes. We want to shift their mindset from dungeon guards to educators while start working with the inmates. We need you now to help us fund an employability- and soft-skills course so they can learn how to interact with society again, prepare for when they get out and refine their skills on how do deal with people, how to build a CV, behave in an interview, among others. Let's decrease the recidivism index through real preparation!
